Melbourne Carlton Central Apartment Hotel

I spent two nights regretting this booking, which cost $511. The place felt filthy and overdue for repairs: torn carpet, scuffed walls, stained linen, and a stale smell as soon as I entered. There was also periodic thumping music from somewhere in the building or corridor on Friday evening, and I shared the lift with a large dog. It's handy for UniMelb, but I'd look elsewhere for a cleaner, quieter stay.

I hate leaving a negative review, but if my name is going to be associated with a property, I want to be honest. The studio was very worn: holes in the carpet, a chipped and stained tub, spills left on the walls, trash behind the T. V., and dishes I had to wash again. I was staying a week in Melbourne and expected more than a fridge and microwave for making meals. The front desk explained that studios don't have the same amenities as one or two bedroom apartments, but I thought Expedia's listing would give accurate details. I guess the old saying is right, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

The location is fantastic and the staff are always helpful. It's a great place to stay and good value, though a little tired.

Manager Brahyan Cardona really made me feel appreciated, and left me feeling appreciative in return. He went out of his way to help a traveler like me, arranging special bookings at attractive rates, helping me access the hotel at odd hours, and looking after my suitcases whenever needed, even after check-out.
