Novotel Melbourne on Collins

The staff were a real highlight, always friendly and ready to help with questions or requests. The CBD location is hard to beat for shopping, restaurants, and getting around. Our room, though, felt dated and basic, with just the standard facilities. A few extra touches like toothbrushes would have been welcome. We also had long waits for the lift because only one was working during our stay. Quite a few reviews seem to mention the same problem. The stay was convenient and comfortable thanks mainly to the location and staff, but the facilities could use an update.

I was in Melbourne CBD for a business trip, and the location was great, right in the heart of the city. The room was good, with a nice shower, a decent bed, charging points on the bedside tables, and a comfortable lounge chair. The view looked inward towards other people's windows, which was a little odd. The facilities were pretty good. Coffee was okay, though not as good as nearby places. Check-in was a problem at first, but staff sorted it out within two hours. The elevator wasn't working while I was there, so carrying luggage up the stairs wasn't fun, though it may have been an isolated issue.

We held an event in Australia Rm 1 and stayed overnight. The team who looked after us during the event were fabulous, and staff gave wonderful support with the organising. Our room was spotless, with a standard king bed, and we slept really well. I can't speak highly enough of the Melbourne Novotel on Collins. Highly recommend it.

The building was quiet and clean, and the location was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a really nice stay. Our accessible room had a spacious bedroom with plenty of room to manoeuvre, a large comfortable bed, and a roomy bathroom with grab bars beside the toilet, bath, and shower. The bath was low enough to transfer into easily, and the shower had a wall-mounted bench. We only ate in once because there are so many good restaurants nearby, but the room service we ordered was absolutely delicious. The bathroom doorway was a real problem: although the door and frame met code, they were installed so my 780mm chair couldn't fit through. It caused me unnecessary pain, though I'm ambulatory enough that I could make it work. If your chair is around that width or wider, I'd call ahead to check the room. It seems like an easy fix, and I told staff at the time, so hopefully it's been dealt with. I'm hoping it was just a one-off mistake. One more thing, if you like a bath at odd hours, check there's a plug before transferring into the tub at 2am. I was so disappointed to have to crawl back out and use the shower instead.
