We had booked lunch for five earlier in the month, and on a cold, stormy drive to Mornington it was lovely to be welcomed into a warm hotel with an open fire. They seated us in front of the cosy fire. The seniors’ menu had plenty of choice and catered for our celiac guest, even providing a Fodmap to look over. My barramundi was delicious, and the salad was beautifully fresh with a light dressing. The French cafeteria-style coffee was tasty too. I drink it black, and the pot held about two cups. Everyone enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We’ll definitely visit again.

There were seven of us, and we all agreed lunch was just right for Mum’s 90th birthday. The staff made us feel relaxed and welcome, doing everything with a smile and a great attitude. This family-run place clearly cares about the details. The oysters were incredibly fresh, Korean Chicken crunchy, Chicken Parma spot on and mussels perfect. We ordered other dishes too, and every one was cooked and presented beautifully. The chips were really good as well. They let us bring Mum’s birthday cake and presented it at the end without charging us. It’s a beautiful old building with a rich history, and the owners clearly love and respect it and want guests to share in that. My wife and I used to come here on warm Sunday afternoons to sit on the front verandah with a gin and tonic and watch the sun go down. Nothing was wrong with the lunch. Thanks to all the staff and crew for making the birthday so special. We’ll be back.

We live in Mount Martha and finally visited on Saturday. The Syrian chicken in the bistro was incredible, and my partner loved her beetroot salad, then helped herself to some of my chicken and loved that too. We finished with a good crème brûlée. We’ll be back!

Brad, the manager, was great. She knew the new locals’ names by heart and quickly made sure we had a good seat and service. We had a fantastic lunch, with one of the nicest meals I’ve had in the Syrian chicken and a steak sandwich my husband thought was fantastic too. You can tell they put a lot of love into the food. We’ll definitely come back and try more of the menu.

On a beautiful autumn afternoon, we sat in the beer garden for happy hour drinks and watched the sunset. Dinner afterwards at Walter’s was a treat. The food was divine, the atmosphere lively, and the staff lovely and helpful. Great value too. We’ll definitely return.
