Sky House Kangaroo Island

A few basics like tissues and gladwrap would have been handy, since we were told supplies aren’t provided. I also wasn’t keen on the apartment’s open bathroom. The apartment itself was spacious, though, and we loved dinner under the Fig Tree at the bottom of the hill. Snelling Beach is down there too, and it’s one of the nicest beaches on the island. The view from the house is astonishing. Getting there took some planning. It’s a 1.5-2 hour drive from the ferry, with dirt roads for part of the way. After arriving on the afternoon ferry, staying overnight in Penneshaw and driving to Sky House the next day would probably have been much less tiring.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here, and we’ll be back. I’ve stayed in luxurious waterfront places in Miami, Istanbul, Sorrento and elsewhere, but this view was beyond anything I’ve seen. It felt like a magical reward after a lifetime of hard work. The best view of my life, no pun intended.

We’re already figuring out when we can visit again. Leaving the Sky House was genuinely sad; the stay was glorious, with a stunning location and everything super comfortable and easy. We even made a few cute friends among the visiting kangaroos and echidna. We miss falling asleep each night to the soothing sounds of Snelling Beach.

The photos really do match the views, and the house was spotless. It’s quiet and secluded, with a huge freestanding bath and a record player with great albums. If you’re considering a stay here, go for it. Amazing house!
