There’s no proper blackout in the rooms, so people end up putting silver tape or alfoil over the windows. I can’t wrap my head around that. The place seems to have no regard for night shift workers, with mowing, whipper snipping, hedging and blowing going on in the morning or middle of the day. I get that people have jobs to do, but this is mainly a night shift camp and something needs to change. The food has definitely improved since I stayed here, and the staff are always friendly, but the noise situation is so disrespectful it isn’t funny.

It’s sad, because this place has a lot of potential and has had it before. My first room had an external door that wouldn’t shut, no shower curtain and a TV that didn’t work. So much for State of Origin. I moved to another room, only to find an out of service tag on the reverse cycle unit. I’d post a photo, but there wasn’t an option.

The facilities were good otherwise, but the shower isn’t set up for disabled guests. The floor is slippery and very sloped, and there are no rails to help. My company may need to let them know I’m an amputee.

I won’t stay anywhere else in Middlemount. The village is quiet and clean, the food is fantastic and varied, and the staff are always incredibly helpful.
