Chalet 705 was a really disappointing place to stay for my sister’s 40th birthday. The bathrooms were old and filthy, with hairs everywhere, the walls were dirty, and hand and body wash were empty or not topped up enough. We were told by the property manager that the owners had been the last to leave and left it that way. There’s a fireplace, but you need to bring your own wood. We had no hot water until our very last day, so I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you like a hot shower after skiing. Management showed no empathy or followed up. We know things can go wrong, but they should take responsibility and compensate us for what we shouldn’t have paid for. This isn’t how an honest business should be run.

Bethany and Tim were professional and accommodating from our first enquiry. They kept our family of four in the same apartment each week and arranged storage, so we didn’t have to haul our things up and down the mountain. We stayed at the Chalet Apartments during the June school holidays and most weekends of the 2023 snow season. The location is a big plus, close to everything we needed. I’m looking forward to going back next year.

We paid $4848 for three nights at Chalet 705, almost $5000, and had no hot water for the first two nights. A plumber came twice without fixing it, and an electrician finally got it working mid-morning on our last day, so that was our first hot shower. The electrician said this had happened before and that a recommended system upgrade had been rejected because of budget. We were there for a milestone birthday in freezing winter weather, but weren’t offered another place to shower or alternate accommodation, even though the resort wasn’t full. The apartment was extremely misleading compared with its listing and photos. The bathrooms were filthy and clearly not professionally cleaned. We had to ask twice for body wash because it kept being forgotten, and the manager had left the resort for the day. It arrived on our last day. The advertised spa bath was old and dirty, with the area around it falling apart. There was no kitchen hand wash, and the wall-mounted soap meant going to the ensuite to wash our hands. The photos showed a full supply of firewood, but there were only five or six pieces. The manager said the owners hadn’t left enough in their locker because it was “end of season,” despite our paying peak prices. I’m not sure what was more insulting, hearing that the owners were the last to vacate before us, or having my texts and email ignored. Under the ACL, we’re entitled to compensation for the listing’s misrepresentation. How can they justify charging $4848 without any remedy? Ignoring us won’t resolve it. This has opened the door to an investigation and possible penalties from Consumer Affairs.

We booked for this weekend with our daughters, but after a long and complicated issue, Mt Buller Apartments charged our Visa for the booking and wouldn’t let us stay or give us a refund. We’ve registered the misconduct with Victorian Consumer Affairs, which seems to be a frequent issue for this hotel. Don’t stay here. Bethany and Tim are D Grade operators, and this place is an absolute disgrace. We’re off to France for the 2024 ski season, since spending money at home has become too difficult. We’ve just traveled through The Greek Islands and Amalfi coast without a single issue. Stay at Breathtaker instead, it’s divine and the service is amazing!

We’ve had a fantastic weekend skiing, and the access straight onto bourke street is one of the best parts. For the last few years, we’ve booked through mount buller apartment rentals and stayed in their chalet building. I can’t fault the communication or customer service. Tim and Bethany go above and beyond to make sure guests have a great time. Can’t wait to stay again in 2024.
