We enjoyed breakfast at the associated Motel next door, and being directed to the empty single garage meant the early morning fog hadn’t iced up our car windows. The arrival timing worked perfectly. The building is a lovely renovated old place, attractive inside and out, and unusual if that’s what you’re after, though it seems better suited to weddings and events. Our three-room suite looked fabulous, but the layout left the bedroom and bathroom crowded, with little space for luggage or toiletries.

The guest rooms are on the ground floor, which made the place very accessible, and we felt welcome at check-in. The house is near the main street, within walking distance of restaurants, pubs and shops. We stayed in the Hay Suite, with a spacious bedroom and a bed like a soft cloud. Its gorgeous bathroom had blue subway tiles, white marble floor tiles and underfloor heating. The period fittings look right, but are all new, so you get the style without the problems. The sitting room had a gas log fire and wing-backed chairs, making it lovely to read in on a cold, wet day. There’s ducted airconditioning throughout as well. From the grand entrance hall onward, this stunning boutique guest house feels like a treat. I’d happily recommend it and hope to stay again.

The bath was fantastic, the fireplace was lovely, and we enjoyed the pool table upstairs. We stayed one night with my husband while driving from Melbourne to Adelaide. The property is gorgeous, with thoughtfully chosen furnishings, and our room had a very comfortable bed. Wine was included, and breakfast at the neighbouring property the next morning was good. A milk steamer would have helped, since there was a coffee pod machine but no way to warm milk. The shower water pressure was poor too. The rain shower looked great, but I couldn’t wash the shampoo out.

The room details were lovely, from the welcome card and make-up towel and mirror to the herbal teas, plush linen, standalone bath and private sitting room. The bathroom’s underfloor heating was a nice touch. The property is absolutely stunning, grand throughout and ideally located. A perfect stay in a beautiful town. Highly recommend!
