The restaurant was awesome, and it’s an easy spot to get into town from. I stayed a night while visiting friends and found the property very comfortable, with plenty of space and everything I needed. My room hadn’t been renovated yet and showed its age, though the price reflected that. The bed was super comfortable, and there was a big couch for watching TV with Foxtel. The desk and comfortable chair were among the best I’ve seen in a motel room, which helped while I sorted through a lot of emails. They’re working through renovations, and that should bring the property to its peak. Even as it is, there was nothing wrong with my room. Worth a stay.

The room was clean, the bed was fresh, and so were the bath towels. Breakfast is a nice extra, with pastries, gsm, cheese and salmon, plus great coffee. I couldn’t open a window, which wasn’t ideal. The rooms need major renovations, but mine was okay for a one-night stay.

The grounds and gardens were lovely and clearly well kept, and the location made it easy to find the hotel and get to local attractions. The on-site team were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Still, those positives were overshadowed by serious problems in the rooms. We booked four rooms at Mantra Mount Gambier for Dec 26-30, paying $4,516 altogether. One Deluxe Twin Room had been listed as sleeping 7 people, as shown in the attached image, but it was far too small for the family of five in our group. The manager told us they don’t actually have any rooms that sleep 7. We also found cockroaches in our Deluxe Queen room, and attached a photo. At this price, that’s completely unacceptable. Despite the “Deluxe” label, the rooms were in poor condition. My photos show deep cracks and peeling plaster around power outlets, plus open holes in the bathroom tiles where fixtures had been removed. It’s a shame, because the staff and location are great. The rooms aren’t being kept to the standard you’d expect for oalmost $300 per night for a room. I hope management fixes the maintenance and listing issues soon.

Chelsea at reception was professional and incredibly helpful, and her recommendations were really good. The place was clean, family friendly, and very comfortable for us. Thank you, Chelsea.

There’s plenty of allocated parking, which was great, and the motel is in a good location. The noise didn’t seem too bad to me, despite what some reviews say, though that may be because of where our room was. Reception and the restaurant keep set hours, so bear that in mind. I spent two nights at Mantra Mount Gambier, previously called Henti/Henty. It’s an older building, so it comes with the usual issues. The room could use a full refresh of its linen and upholstery, and a better clean. The couch had visible stains and made us uncomfortable, so we covered it with a blanket whenever we sat down, haha. The doors, including the bathroom door, need new locks. Now that Mantra has taken over the property, I think there’ll be heaps of positive changes coming.
