We’ve been visiting Mt Warning Rainforest Park since my daughter was little, back when we’d get up early for the Mt Warning hike. It’s peaceful and family-friendly, with a lovely creek, pool, hot showers and a camp kitchen stocked with BBQs, fridges, a toaster and kettle. Dogs are welcome, and fires are allowed with firewood available. Service can be pretty minimal, but that does make it easier to switch off and enjoy the surroundings. Deano, a local Aboriginal artist, often paints there, and you can take home a really meaningful piece of art. A beautiful nature spot at a reasonable price.

We were told to keep away from the creek, and the bush walks were closed, so being stuck at camp with a noisy neighbour was disappointing. We tried to make the best of it since we don’t get many breaks. We were a large group in the unpowered area over a long weekend, and it rained most of the trip. Our site was very close to an extremely dirty toilet block that wasn’t cleaned once in three days. A neighbour spent nearly the whole time yelling or talking through a microphone about devil files and playing loud music.

I spent most of my time at the creek, watching good-sized fish swim upstream with half their bodies out of the water. I’d never seen that before! Crayfish were hopping from boulder to boulder, and even onto me, though I still couldn’t catch one. The water looked so clean I felt like I could drink it, but I didn’t. I just sipped my MacDonald chai and watched. The Eco family cabins were lovely and very clean, and the staff were friendly, approachable and understanding.

We had a fantastic night in Eco Cabin F2. Suzannah, the cleaner, deserves a shout-out! Already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend it.

A good place to rest, close to Murwillumbah and Uki. You can choose your own spot. The creek was fun, though the pool was dirty. There’s a chance you’ll get yuppies or a group of teenagers having a party.
