Cudgegong Valley Motel

A friendly, comfortable country motel without any fuss. The garden has lots of space and outdoor seating, a lovely place for a cool drink or BBQ dinner on a warm evening. After a 32° day, the pool was just right, and pool towels were provided. It’s on the edge of town near the wineries, away from downtown noise, yet you can walk into town on the well-maintained path by the river or drive. It’s remarkably quiet at night despite being on a main road. We’ll definitely stay again when we visit Mudgee.

The stay itself turned out alright and the room was comfortable, but the late arrival was frustrating. My key had apparently been left in the room door, but nobody told me the room number or that it was ready. I spent nearly two hours trying to reach the hotel, with the phone ringing repeatedly while I stood outside and got no answer. When someone finally picked up, I would have appreciated a more courteous explanation. I was just outside the reception window and could see myself on the CCTV, so a brief, kind word would have helped me feel welcome. I don’t think this was a facility problem or workplace culture issue. I later met a male staff member who was exceptionally nice and polite. I think it was the particular female staff member on duty that night. Future guests, make sure communication is clear. Thanks.

The new managers, who’ve been there a month, were wonderful: friendly, really helpful, and happy to handle a difficult request without any fuss. The pool was pristine, and the rooms were big and very clean, with an older style. They had a fridge, microwave, smart TV and air conditioning. A fantastic little country motel with wonderful hospitality.

The woman at the desk was lovely, the only positive I can mention. The room was tiny and dated, with a small bathroom and hardly any space in the shower. The air conditioning struggled to cool it, even after I changed the setting from heat, and there was no ceiling fan. The room smelled dusty or just not very clean, and I ended up sneezing with puffy eyes, which usually happens to me with dust. We both slept badly. One bedside lamp didn’t work because its button was missing. It’s also on a bend in a very busy road, so getting in wasn’t easy. Maybe I’m just oversensitive.
