We were welcomed warmly and got into our cabin about 90 minutes before check-in. They’d already switched on the air conditioning, which was a relief with temperatures in the high 30s. The cabin was roomy and the bed comfortable enough, though it’s looking worn and most things were just okay. The park was very quiet during our November 2025 visit, perhaps because it was off-season. The surroundings are lovely, with wildlife, walking tracks and the lake, and it felt peaceful apart from jetskis and music during the day. The shop, cafe and social spaces appeared to be closed, which would have been useful to know beforehand. The closest shops were in Wellington, about 30ks each way. A power cut left us without air conditioning or a fridge for around 18 hours. It wasn’t the Park’s fault, but we heard nothing until I called the emergency number. That went to voicemail, which wasn’t reassuring, though someone did get back to me a few hours later. It’s a beautiful area and the holiday park is adequate, but nothing particularly special.
We couldn’t stay even one night because the camping area and facilities were in such poor condition, despite having paid for two nights in advance. The place looked nothing like the photos online, and it seemed badly maintained. When we complained, the staff were unhelpful and didn’t take responsibility. We emailed asking for a refund and expect it to be processed. If it isn’t, we’ll take the matter further and lodge a complaint. We also saw many other families upset and asking for refunds over the facilities and their experience. It was a very disappointing stay and not worth the money. I wouldn’t recommend it to families or anyone wanting a decent camping experience.
Lake Burrendong means a lot to families across the Central West, especially people from Dubbo. Generations have made memories there and returned year after year. We love the place and want to keep supporting it, but it’s getting harder when the facilities seem to have barely changed. The roads and amenities are poorly maintained, cleanliness is below average, and the park seems to be declining. The kiosk staff were disengaged and not much help. Paying $39 for one night on an unpowered site just to sleep in a swag feels unreasonable when there’s so little sign that the money is going back into the park. The connection people have to this place isn’t being matched by the upkeep. Without real reinvestment, better maintenance and better service, it risks losing the people who have supported it for generations.
We paid for two nights but left straight away because the campsite and facilities were so neglected. The grounds looked nothing like the pictures online, and the whole experience was extremely disappointing. Other families we saw were also unhappy and asking for refunds over the same problems. When we raised our concerns, the staff weren’t helpful and didn’t accept responsibility. We’ve emailed to request a refund and expect the matter to be handled promptly. If it isn’t resolved, we’ll take further action and make a formal complaint. It wasn’t worth the cost, and I wouldn’t recommend it to families or anyone looking for a decent, well-maintained camping area.
The dam is such a great spot, and the pool was open, but the cabins are past their best and need a refurb. I booked because we have kids and thought the waterslide would be great. It wasn’t in use, and I’d have chosen the other reflections if I’d known. There should be a note online before booking to say the waterslide isn’t working. I wouldn’t have booked had I known. If they refurbished the cabins, pool and slide, the place would be all on.
