The staff made the week for us. Deonne, Jack and Sue were so welcoming every day, friendly, professional and always ready to help. The cleaners also did a fantastic job; our room was fresh, spotless and everything was in its place. We had everything we needed in the room, including a comfortable bed, a roomy bathroom and a great shower. I loved being able to open the window for some fresh air. The shared kitchen and pantry were handy too, with a microwave, oven, stovetop and cookware, so we could make a meal, eat, wash up and head back to our room. The town was lovely as well. We had a meal at the pub, coffee and brunch twice at 2 before 10, and visited the pharmacy and Celebrations. Everyone we met at those places was extremely friendly. If you want to stay outside Canberra, about 20-25 minutes away, Abode Murrumbateman is hard to beat. We had a very enjoyable week and highly recommend it.

We’ve already booked the same room for our return drive next week. The cafes across the road are worth stopping for too: 2before10 and Clementine were incredible. I’m fussy about coffee, and their long black was the best I’ve ever had. The strawberry tart, raspberry danish and Reuben hot pastry were all 10/10. We stayed in a Terrace Room, which meant parking right outside was easy for a quick overnight stop. It was clean and inviting, with a massive king-sized bed. The bathroom was spacious and spotless, and the rainforest shower head had perfect pressure. There was no microwave, but the other promised amenities were there, including extra blankets and pillows. We were travelling from the Gold Coast to Melbourne, and the place was just what we needed. It’s about 15 minutes off the Hume Highway, but the detour was well worth it. We arrived at 2:30 AM; after I messaged ahead, the clear after-hours instructions made getting our key effortless. It’s very welcoming for families with dogs. The sliding door opens to an outside area, which is a nice touch, though a fence would make it better for pets to roam securely.

The shower pressure was okay until someone else in the building turned theirs on, then it became horrific. The room also smelled very strongly of dog. I made a mistake with the booking date on booking. com. When I arrived, reception couldn’t change it and told me to pay the hotel separately, then request a refund for the original booking. I did that in good faith, but several days after I checked out the hotel said it wouldn’t refund the original payment. I was charged twice for one stay, and they refused to refund me or honor the amount as credit toward a future stay. Very disappointing.

The espresso downstairs was surprisingly good, a nice extra before heading out. Abode Murrumbateman has a relaxed, easy feel and makes a great base for wineries or a trip into Canberra. Check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly and easy to deal with. Our room was spacious and quiet, with a comfortable bed and everything set up well. I’d happily stay again.

The guest laundry was useful, and our room opened onto a terrace with easy access to the carpark, making it convenient to unload and load the car. Beds were comfortable, towels thick and soft, and the bathroom had quality soap and shampoo. There were good-brand teas, coffee and hot chocolate in the room. The pantry worked as a dining room, with tables, chairs and an open kitchen well stocked for cooking. You could also buy frozen meals, snacks, dips, cheese, drinks and wine, and barista-style coffee was available. Reception staff were courteous and helpful with maps, restaurants and wineries. There’s a large carpark in front of the hotel. My one reason for giving four stars was the guest bikes. Half weren’t working, and the ones available weren’t well maintained. Otherwise, it was a very pleasant stay at Abode Murrumbateman.
