Motel On Alpine

Our booking through Virgin Australia was for a Corporate Suite, but on arrival the motel tried to put us in a much smaller room and asked for more money. I wouldn’t pay extra for a room worse than the one I’d already booked and paid for, and staff became extremely aggressive and confrontational. It happened right in front of my children, so we had to leave and find somewhere else at a much higher last-minute cost. They refused a refund on the spot. Appalling customer service and a complete lack of professional integrity.

The location made a great base for exploring the Alpine region, with shops, cafes and lovely nature spots nearby. My family and I spent two nights at Myrtleford Motel and had a wonderful time. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well equipped, the bed was cozy, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. Staff were welcoming and friendly, always ready to help with a smile. I’d happily come back and recommend it to anyone after a peaceful, pleasant stay in the area.

At $200 a night, the quality was extremely poor. The room was freezing, with a strong damp smell, no heating, and an air conditioner that never worked. The patched floor had exposed screws, which felt very unsafe barefoot, and there was a hole in the ceiling. Broken bathroom tiles, a slug and a blocked sink added to it. The shower was tiny and awful: turning on the water made the curtain stick to my body and flooded the whole bathroom. No staff were available to help. Check-in was also difficult, as nobody was at reception, so we had to call and wait. Attached photos show the unsafe floor, ceiling hole and broken air conditioner.

We were glad to find the rooms still SUPER CLEAN and good value, even though ownership had changed since our previous visit. There’s tea and coffee, a microwave and bathroom amenities in the well-provisioned room. The heater and electric blankets were especially welcome in winter. A great stop on our way to Falls Creek!
