The meals in the bistro were great, and the serves were big. The chef came out to check on us too, a friendly bloke. I've been here a few times over the years, and the place hasn't changed much. The bar staff are friendly and enjoy a laugh. They seem like genuine people, with that old-school country hospitality.

The service was fantastic, and we had a great time chatting with the people who served us. We stopped in for lunch while exploring the region on a day out. The food was good, wholesome fare, and the portions were enormous, just what I needed because I was ravenous. We didn't stay overnight, so I can't comment on the rooms.

The atmosphere was the main problem for me. There were six of us, and I'd brought my son, his girlfriend, and my grandson up from Sydney for what I hoped would be a nice lunch. I thought it was a family pub and expected a good meal and drinks for the money. Instead, the service was bad, the food was cold, and both the first and second beers were flat. Even the soft drinks weren't cold. We spent $158 on food, but the money isn't what I'm complaining about. I wouldn't go back.

A lovely bloke was the one saving grace. He was really apologetic about our experience. The place had no atmosphere, no music, and not even the sport on TV, which felt drab. I understand it's a family hotel and respect that there are no pokies. We were told it had been bought about two months earlier and was under new ownership. The food came out of the kitchen cold and tasteless, and the new owner couldn't pour a beer to save his life. There seemed little point raising it with the publican, who said we were the only people to ever complain. Maybe we were the first, but I'm sure we won't be the last.

The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff were fantastic too. We went with friends for dinner after not having been for a while, and were glad we came back. The new owners are doing their best, and the meals were great. We'll definitely go back!
