Old Colony Inn

Breakfast was delicious and nutritious, served by the open fire that warmed the room nicely. It was so good we stopped on the way home to buy similar things and recreate it. Penelope is insightful about the artists whose work hangs on the walls, and about Greater Hobart, its people and history. It was lovely hearing her stories. The Old Colonial Inn is a beautiful old building, as interesting as the small town of New Norfolk it's in. Thank you, Penelope and your husband, for letting us stay in your quaint, warm and elegant guest room. The property is full of eclectic, beautiful art, bought or painted by Penelope. The high ceilings and recessed attic windows look over the courtyard and gardens, with mountains in the distance. You can turn on the light with a cord hanging from the ceiling. The narrow, steep staircase takes you back in time, or you can reach the upper landing by an external sandstone path, with no stairs. Give the inn a try next time you need somewhere to stay in the area. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

A quaint little place and handy for visiting Mt Field NT Park. The breakfast was simple and nice.

Outside, the place could use a good clean and some landscaping, and at first glance you might think twice. The new owners have had it for two years and are renovating gradually. Inside, our room was clean and comfortable, and the bed was cosy. The highlight was the lovely breakfast Penelope put on. She's a lovely hostess. Do yourself a favour and visit “The Bush Inn” for great food, just a one minute walk away.

I loved the ambience and felt absolutely at home in the excellent room. Penelope is a wonderful host, and her breakfasts were just yummy. We really enjoyed our conversations, and the skate boarding dog was the icing on the cake! I'll come back whenever I can. I'd give this place more than five stars if possible.
