Crystalbrook Kingsley

Carla and the team left us a complimentary bottle of wine, caramel popcorn, and a letter for our anniversary. Such a thoughtful surprise. Crystalbrook Kingsley was a great stay for my partner and me. Our room was very clean and modern, with a sleek design and a well-considered setup, from the lighting to the bathroom and bed. Staff brought our bags up when we arrived, which was lovely after travelling. Service was prompt and everyone was friendly, so we felt comfortable throughout. The Google Chromecast did cut out a few times and made the TV frustrating to use, but we had no other complaints. We’d recommend Crystalbrook if you’re staying in Newcastle. We think it’s one of the better places in the area.

The upstairs bar makes nice cocktails, and the rooms were clean and spacious. Front desk staff were welcoming and accommodating, and the valet parking was good. We come to Newcastle for business every 4-5 weeks and usually stay at QT, but tried Crystalbrook this time. I’d return if the other hotels were booked out. I was a little disappointed that my birthday passed without anything beyond a small note wishing me a happy birthday, especially compared with hotels that go further to make the day special. We’d asked for a complimentary dessert or something similar. There were no dental kits, so I had to request one, and I also had to ask for robes. The robes felt thin and cheap, like Bali robes, and there were no slippers. The hairdryer was average.

We had a lovely room, with thoughtfully designed furniture and fittings that weren’t the usual white and brown. I also liked touches such as the coat hangers made from recycled materials. Roundhouse Restaurant was fab, and reception staff gave us great parking advice that saved us money. A nice bonus for our anniversary, too. Newcastle is a great city, and this is a great place to stay.

The restaurant has spectacular views, but we wouldn’t eat there again unless the portions matched the price. The food was good and a little unusual, but it was overpriced and the servings were underwhelming. For context, we’re not big eaters. The location is great, with plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby, and the staff were brilliant, friendly, and helpful. I can’t fault the service.
