Robinson Cottage

We chose The Studio as a stop on our trip so we could visit Callington Mill Distillery. The building and room history write-up was a nice touch. We had a wonderful overnight stay, and the bed was so comfortable we didn’t want to get up. The electric blanket was a marvellous bonus.

I cancelled six months before my stay because my plans changed, but they still charged me 50 per cent of the full price, $150. I’m not happy with that strict cancellation policy. Under Australian consumer law, cancellation fees need to be fair and reflect the business’s actual costs of cancelling.

The bathroom window wouldn’t shut properly, so a very cold draft came in, and the room was cold even with the barely adequate AC. Supplies and utensils were poor, and the milk in the fridge had already been opened and used. Dirty cups and utensils and the lack of cleanliness made for a disappointing stay. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Oatlands itself is lovely, with friendly people and fantastic scenery. I’d recommend stopping there, though maybe not staying in The Studio. During our one night, giant flies had infested the room and I spent a good hour and a half killing them. It was cold, and the AC barely warmed the room. The passive aggressive notes around the place summed up the whole vibe.
