Mercure Orange

I paid $260 a night for a small room with thin walls, a draft coming through the gap around the door, and enough noise from neighbouring voices and bathrooms to hear it all. This feels like an old motel that's been dressed up, and the location is the only real positive. At best, it's mediocre. I asked for a quiet room when I arrived. The receptionist said they were fully booked, rooms had already been allocated, and they'd do their best, while raising her hand right in my face. The room I was given for three nights felt like a bunker with no natural light, just off busy Byng Street. I went back and asked for the manager, and they moved me upstairs to a first-floor room that at least had some daylight. Breakfast was included, but it was served at the neighbouring Ex Services Club, which doesn't open until 7.30am. I skipped it and went to Byng Street Store, which I already knew was very nice. People in my party who had the included breakfast said I hadn't missed anything.

We come back about once a year, and this time we had two bookings for three nights altogether. They combined them so we could stay in one room the whole time. It was lovely and quiet. Thank you.

The motel was clean and tidy, though we could hear some noise from our room near the front entrance. We had to park in the back carpark, and the signs showing how to get there weren't very clear.

We had a Deluxe Room with a queen and single bed for two adults and our 10-year-old. The hotel is central and very clean, and the beds were comfortable. The service was okay too: reception staff were pleasant, and they sorted out the missing hairdryer quickly enough. Our room was in the old motel section and had no outside window, so it felt dark and oppressive. When I asked, there wasn't another room available. The bathroom was dated, and opening its door made it hit the shower door. We booked thinking there was a pool on site, but it no longer exists. That's not the hotel's fault, and I let our booking agent know so they could remove the pool photos from their app. Given the room's condition and lack of a window, I thought it was poor value.
