Crowne Plaza Perth by IHG

The pool has a lovely view, and I could work out in the connected gym while keeping an eye on the kids swimming. We had a nice one-night stay with them overall. Dinner at Gusti Restaurant was excellent, and the young male waiter was kind and attentive. He even gave us a complimentary drink with dinner. I loved the cheese cocktail and coffee cocktail, though I can’t remember their exact names. Breakfast was a nice surprise too. An older waiter kindly didn’t charge us for the breakfast we ordered from the menu, which we really appreciated. The bedroom was comfortable, and the pillow was just right. The trouble was the noise from upstairs. I could hear kids running around late into the night, and it was hard to sleep. I called reception, but it kept going, so I had to complain again a few hours later. Thankfully the noise eased after that and I finally fell asleep. I think it may have been the same group of teenage boys I’d seen playing pretty recklessly in the gym earlier. The hotel itself is great and I’d come back, but it was unfortunate not to get a full night’s sleep because of other guests.

The room itself was already a letdown: toiletries were sitting on the shower floor, and the damaged door looked carelessly painted despite a recent renovation. The workmanship and attention to detail felt nonexistent. I’m on night two of a seven-night stay at Crowne Plaza Perth, and I can’t leave because I prepaid and the hotel won’t refund the unused nights. I’d go today if I could. I’ve been loyal to IHG for decades and often held top-tier Royal Ambassador status, but customer service has fallen so far that I can’t keep doing business with the brand. A note in my room promised a 60% bonus on points and other status benefits. The front desk said that wasn’t true and I would get no benefits at all. Other problems, including an overcharge on my credit card, have made this the last straw. I plan to move my loyalty to another brand after this stay. Update: IHG’s reply was more lies and felt like total gaslighting. I did not book through Expedia. The supposed “issues with the Ambassador program” were actually an unauthorized charge to my account, which felt like theft. The reply also didn’t address any of the room problems. Will your stay be better? Maybe. But why take the risk when Perth has plenty of good hotels run by reputable brands? Do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere.

The bar and room are both spacious, and happy hour is a good deal, with $10 pints of local beer. The sunset views are great too. My one gripe as a 6'2 bloke is that the shower heads only reach shoulder height. Pretty frustrating, but otherwise, nice spot.

The service has been pretty good and the food was really nice, but we’re disappointed overall, especially for a place with the Crowne Plaza name and a fancier image. We’re on night two of three, and if I could book somewhere else right now, I would. My wife is pregnant, and having to climb in and out of a bathtub to use the shower feels really unsafe to me. We’re also in the room below the gym, so from 6am to 10pm it’s constant noise: people walking to and from the pool, weights dropping, and treadmills running.
