Globe Backpackers & City Oasis Resort

It’s cheap and no-frills, but there are better places to stay. The inside feels dark and dirty, and it wasn’t very clean. There were barely any tourists or backpackers, so it didn’t feel sociable. Some guests looked rough and may have been homeless, though I can’t be sure. Staff kept their distance. They weren’t unfriendly, but seemed not to care. I’ve had enough bad experiences at independent hostels in Australia in less than two months, and I won’t book one again.

For an expensive stay, this hostel was a letdown. I was there four weeks, and the downstairs computer and Wi-Fi never worked, despite being told they were being fixed. The rooms weren’t properly cleaned: bins were left full or floors weren’t vacuumed, and the bathroom had dust, soap scum, a smell, and obvious neglect. There are only two stoves, so cooking means long waits. Long-term Australian residents were unpleasant to be around and dominated the only guest area day and night, including taking over the single TV in the lounge. The staff never smiled, which made me feel unwelcome. My worst experience was other Australian guests who seemed to be homeless. One woman was often drunk, high, or sniffing butane in the room, then snored day and night. I don’t recommend staying here. There are better hostels nearby or within the free bus zone to the city.

I stayed at Globe Backpacker for almost a month, and the location right beside Perth station made getting food or going shopping really convenient. The staff were lovely and helpful and made the place feel like home. Special thanks to Craig, Dave, Kevin, and Sherry for all the good memories we shared. I’d choose this place again if I return to Perth, and highly recommend it.

Being close to the train station and Woolworth made it convenient, and I’d recommend adding this backpackers to your accommodation list. My time at Globe Backpackers is a memory I won’t forget. I made good friends there and had a good time with them. All the staff were especially kind and nice.
