Guildford River Retreat

The room was pleasant but basic, and we couldn't find where the other amenities were. Parking was awkward, so we ended up leaving the car on a street verge. There was also major renovation work at the front, which blocked access to reception and was poorly signposted. Nobody told us about it beforehand. I had to knock on a random door before someone directed us around the back to check in. An email ahead of time would have made arrival much easier. We chose the place because of its good reviews, but I left feeling let down. It is described as a bed and breakfast, and at $240 for one night I expected breakfast to be included. We were told they no longer serve it, apparently since Covid, so the price didn't feel fair and the listing was misleading.

The rooms are great, and the family and company were easy to deal with and always helpful. The location is handy too, with plenty of dinner options just across the way, including the Guildford hotel and the Thai place down the road.

Restaurants, cafes, a pub, and the train are all within walking distance, which made the location really convenient. I stayed in the Heritage Suite, a lovely mix of old-world charm and modern comforts, and it was spotlessly clean. Guildford River Retreat was a delight, and John and Shelley were lovely to deal with. I'd happily stay again next time I'm in Perth.

The rooms were lovely and comfortable, and the bed was too. Parking the Ranger took some patience, though. If you're driving a large vehicle, finding a spot can be a pain.
