Riverview On Mount Street

We could walk into town and to the botanic gardens easily, and the street full of lovely jacarandas made the location even nicer. The restaurant downstairs was busy with locals and served a great breakfast, and the staff were warm and helpful. Our room looked a bit dated, though it was spotless. The highway traffic was almost constant, so light sleepers may find it hard. I’d still highly recommend staying here.

The room was comfortable and the front desk staff were friendly, but the management policies left a really bad impression. I can’t recommend the place and will stay with another provider next trip. The laundry setup was especially frustrating. It’s coin operated, but the desk wouldn’t give us coins unless we had cash. The nearest ATM was a 20-minute walk away. Why not allow guests to get coins with a card or add card readers to the machines? That’s a lot to ask when these are the hotel’s own washers and dryers. Laundry also closes at 7pm. If you finish work in the city at 5, it can take 10-20 minutes to get back, leaving at most 1 hour 40 minutes to wash and dry. Getting back at 6, which is realistic, leaves an hour or less. The signs claimed a full wash and dry cycle took 45 minutes, but washing alone took 35 minutes and the dryer was set for 40. I started washing at 6:05, within the stated hours, and managed only 20 minutes of drying before the kind service desk staff member had to send me out because her shift was ending. I may be heading to work in wet clothes tomorrow. The hotel also requires guests’ personal bank details even when the booking and payment are handled by a business. And apparently locking yourself out of your room or forgetting the front door code can cost $80. These policies feel extremely poor and hostile for a place offering hospitality. I dread what guests who’ve had deposit refunds go wrong must have dealt with.

The rooms have recently been refurbished, and breakfast is served in a great venue. Service is very limited, though that fits the apartment style, which is all the place claims to be. Its location is incredibly convenient for events in Kings Park, so it does the job well.

We stayed four nights and found the room adequate, with a very comfortable bed. It’s on a quiet road, where there are lovely birds in the trees, and the Botanical Gardens and The Quay are both a short walk away. A very friendly and helpful [unclear] set the tone for an enjoyable stay.
