Discovery Parks - Robe

The sites felt cramped, with vans packed in like sardines, and there was no drainage, so grey water ran beneath our van. I've never stayed at a park without that basic setup. During our 10-day stay I had to tell staff three times that the female toilets at the front had no soap, and when dispensers were there, they were broken. The indoor pool was too small to be much good. It was our first time in Robe, but unfortunately we won't be back.

The beach is in a good spot nearby, and the playground was good, though a bit more shade there would help. Our caravan site was very small, and the pool was closed when we arrived because of the pH levels. That was disappointing, as our young kids had been looking forward to swimming.

There were so many vans squeezed in that we had no room to set up an awning or sit outside, and manoeuvring was difficult. During a power outage there was no emergency outdoor lighting, which was bad. Getting to the beach means walking across a busy road where large trucks park. With so many kids on bikes and scooters alongside all the car movements, it didn't feel like a good mix. We won't stay again. In my opinion, a park farther from the beach with more room to relax would be better.

We enjoy coming to the park, but the recent lack of investment by the owners and Discovery is disappointing, especially as annual site fees keep rising. Our sites were dry, uneven and dusty, with no sullage nearby even though other sites have it. The toilets and showers at the back of the park were substandard, and aside from the camp kitchen there was no shelter or BBQ area for bad weather. As a branded organisation, that isn't acceptable. We hope more goes into maintaining and improving the park and facilities. I emailed management three weeks ago and still haven't had a reply. During our New Year visit, our 15th year at the park, we had power outages on several days. In the heat, this was very inconvenient. We paid for an expensive powered site and shouldn't have had repeated outages, the stress of not knowing if power would return, or maintenance staff telling us to turn things off in our van because they were causing the problem. Staff said the park knew about the issue, but it didn't seem they were taking steps to fix it. We had the same problem the previous Christmas. We are seeking compensation because we had to move food out of the van and suffered in the heat without air-conditioning.
