Capricorn Motel & Conference Centre

The reception man was warm and welcoming, and the shower kept its hot water. Our room was clean, with a view over the pool, and the firm bed was comfortable. Highway noise was audible but didn't wake me; sounds from next door came through more clearly, and in the morning I woke to cars pulling out. It's a handy stop heading north, with plenty of food a short drive away. There's also an on-site bistro with a good-looking menu, though its short evening hours didn't fit my schedule.

I've been returning to Capricorn Motel and Conference centre since 2014, and have booked rooms here for managers and sales staff over the years. Everyone has wanted to come back. Gary, the owner manager, is wonderfully hospitable and always willing to help. The rooms, beds, linen and towels are spotless, and the beds are comfortable. The price is great, and the included continental breakfast means coffee, cereal and fruit before work. I ordered room service tonight and the meal was excellent and very fairly priced, a welcome surprise at day's end. With my 23kg suitcase and briefcase, I love being able to drive right up to the suite instead of dealing with stairs or a long walk. Well done to Gary and the staff for that old-fashioned hospitality. We'll keep coming back.

We were heading back to Port Douglas and stopped for a night. Driving a little out of town was well worth it: our large room was comfortable and looked over the pool, and dinner at the bistro was a real highlight. The menu was simple, the staff and manager attentive, and the food and service made us very happy. My crumbed chicken with vegetables and Egon's steak with fresh, crisp salad were both cooked just right. It made our day. Thanks, Capricorn Motel and Bistro.

We visited family and had a lovely time. The managers and staff were all friendly and easy to approach, and the rooms had plenty for a family, including crockery and cutlery. The bigger fridge in our room came in very handy. We ate there on the first night and the meal was fresh and amazing. Didn't get a chance to use the lovely pool. Deb Steve and Ethan Jones
