Fitzroy Hotel

We left without staying because the place didn’t feel secure or safe to sleep in. The room door didn’t lock properly, and there were two or three lizards on the wall after the windows had been left open all evening. There was also a broken chair in the middle of the room, and we were told not to sit on it because they hadn’t fixed it yet. We arrived late after a long drive, and the owner who greeted us seemed clearly high on drugs.

The manager and facilities are second to none, and the rooms are clean and affordable. I felt welcome as soon as I walked in. Handy for one night or a week, and I’ll definitely be back and telling people about it.

A friendly old style pub with good people and a great atmosphere. No pokies, plus a pool table and cheap schooners. There are karaoke nights on Fridays and darts and pool competitions three nights a week. It has three pool tables, a swimming pool and an air-conditioned bar. The beers on tap are the coldest. Give it a go.

We were left stranded after arriving exhausted from a drive down the east coast, because the Fitzroy Hotel said there were no rooms, despite our online booking and personal call to confirm it. No refund was offered until I asked the owner, who told me to sort it out with Agoda. I spent three days going back and forth with them because the hotel wouldn’t answer and give us our money back. The ad photos also looked misleading, with a Tasmania image trademark visible in the bottom right corners. The whole place had a Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe, which seemed to match the service. I really don’t recommend it.
