The Edge Apartment Hotel

We had a lovely view of the Fitzroy River from our spacious room at Edge Apartments Hotel. It was well equipped for cooking, and parking was available too. We were in Rockhampton City for sightseeing while visiting from the UK, and we’d consider staying here again on a return visit.

My last stay about a month ago went fine, but when I tried to book again tonight, they wanted a $400 deposit on top of the $380 room price. I filled in the forms and waited for the key, then the young staff member told me I was blacklisted. There’d been no problem during my previous stay. That’s a terrible way to treat people and run a business. They need new management.

The location is a real plus, right by the river with easy access to the CBD, and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. Staff were helpful and friendly too. But The Edge Luxury Apartment Hotel felt more functional than luxurious, even by apartment hotel standards. Some of the room details were odd or lacking. There was no in-room safe, just one box of poor-quality tissues, and the two rubbish bins were small and awkwardly placed, one in the bathroom and one under the kitchenette sink. The amenities kit was provided on the first day and never topped up. At check-in we were warned not to take the toiletries and told we could buy them for $28. The same message was given in writing, which wasn’t a welcoming start. The bedside lamps were so touch-sensitive that they came on if you even blinked. My mum put it well: “This feels like a hotel for men working away from home.” I agree. It’ll do if you need somewhere to sleep with good Wi-Fi, but anyone hoping for comfort and charm may want to look elsewhere.

Parking is around the back of the building, with access from Bolsover Lane. Reception was very helpful and arranged an early-morning key drop-off.
