The smell in the room was unpleasant, and I’m not sure how well it had been cleaned. There was also a bathroom ceiling leak and visible mold that looked like it had been there a while. At checkout, both the reception and front doors were locked, so I nearly missed my taxi while waiting for someone to collect the key. Check-in was uncomfortable too: the attendant began typing numbers from my debit card when they only needed to check my ID and possibly the card. I had to stop them because my details were visible. I think these problems could all be fixed.

The room was adequate, though the bathroom had broken tiles and mold, the bed was hard, and the pillows were flat. We couldn't use a toaster in the room either. What really spoiled our stay was finding out after booking that the pool was out of service. I need a motel with a pool when I travel to Rockhampton, and nobody at reception mentioned this when we booked directly. After three nights we asked for a refund for the fourth, but were refused, so we had to stay. We couldn't relax by the pool each afternoon, and it ruined the holiday.

The service at Motel 98 Skyring was exceptional, and we had a great meal there. Really enjoyed the food.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but I wouldn't stay here again. The shower was mouldy and leaking, the room smelled like a toilet, and the aircon was dusty. I think the mouldy room may actually have made me sick. The door was difficult to shut and looked like it had been kicked in at some point. There was a crack house across the road. Most rooms seemed to have air fresheners blasted through them to cover the stink. They should fix the smell instead.

The trial entree they offered us was absolutely beautiful. The food was prepared to perfection, and both the cocktails and service were amazing. We'd highly recommend Motel 98.
