Riverfront Motel & Restaurant

On our first day in Tassie, the staff made such a great impression. They were wonderful and helped us at every point during our stay. And the food at this humble restaurant is next level.

The riverside setting was so peaceful and scenic, and the staff were genuinely welcoming. We stayed two nights over Christmas. Everything was tidy, and the electric blankets were a big help with the winter cold. The rooms could use an update, though. The carpets are old, the bathroom is tight, and the outdoor hot water system gets surprisingly noisy while you're showering. It's also fairly isolated, so you'll need to drive 10-15 minutes to reach a Coles or cafes beyond the motel's own restaurant. A solid pick if you care more about the view and friendly service than modern interiors.

The Riverside feels like a step back in time in a lovely way, with its mid-century modern family resort charm. It’s only seven minutes from Hobart, up the Derwent River, and the photos give a pretty accurate idea of this clean, bright, well located motel. The staff were helpful and friendly, and there’s a restaurant and bar at Reception that’s as good as nearby food options. There’s plenty to do around the property, including a lap pool, playground, tennis and pickball court with racquets and balls, bike rentals, a nice walking trail, and little beaches with spectacular mountain views. There’s a sunride over the river, too, plus MONA next door and its ferry into the city. For rooms, ask for #15 or any number facing the river. The adorable room service "mailbox boxes" made me smile. Rooms are bright, clean, and well equipped with heaters, a fan, iron, electric blankets, and a bathroom with space heating for chilly fall and winter mornings. There’s also laundry. It made a great base for road trips in and around Hobart.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well equipped, and the views across the well kept grounds to the river made for a great stay. Staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The onsite restaurant had lovely meals and a reasonable variety.
