Walkabout Motel

The country setting and saltwater pool were nice, and the highway nearby didn’t bother us with noise. We stayed in the roomy, comfortable 'Champagne Suite', which had a separate bathroom, toilet and powder room. It’s an older-style motel that’s been updated recently, and the price was reasonable.

The room itself was large and clean, with a comfortable bed and what looked like new carpet. But it felt dark and barn-like, with exposed brick and a pine ceiling, and the decor was old and worn. The lace curtains were ugly, the cutlery and crockery were mismatched and looked like they’d come from the local Vinnies store, and the wardrobe and kitchenette cupboards need replacing. Breakfast didn’t seem to be available, and reception looked just as tired as the room. It gave me the impression the owners don’t care. With a tasteful refurbishment, these rooms could make great holiday accommodation.

I accidentally selected the wrong rating and couldn’t delete it, so apologies for the negative score. The motel was lovely, clean and welcoming. I booked it for a client’s overnight stay, and she was very pleased with the accommodation.

The cabins were well stocked and really comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised to find brand new linens and towels in our rooms. They also had local wine at cellar door prices.
