Scamander Tourist Park

I paid $20/night per person to camp beside the kitchen, which felt a bit steep. The kitchen had fridges, microwaves, a kettle, and a toaster. The bathrooms weren’t pretty, but they worked, and the shower was decent at $1/6mins. They didn’t seem as bad as some of the other reviews made them sound.

It could have been great, but about half the facilities were either out of order or not working, including the outdoor BBQs.

The kids’ playground is pitiful, if it even deserves that name, with hardly any equipment. The amenities are disgraceful, and the whole tourist park feels like a run-down hovel. The place seems to be falling apart, while the owner, I assume, just sits in the office and doesn’t seem bothered. They should be ashamed. Do yourself a favour and drive on to St Helen’s. It might cost a little more, but at least it’s respectable.

The staff really took care of us, and that made a big difference. Our budget cabin was clean and good value, even though the decor was dated. The laundry was cheap, which was a bonus, but it could use a couple more machines. It’s a comfortable, well-kept place in a great location.
