The Carrington Hotel

We booked two rooms for two nights through booking.com last year for the Shepparton cup in October 2026. Then a very rude employee called to say the quoted price was “too cheap” for those dates and that we’d have to pay double. When we said we wouldn’t pay more and that this wasn’t our problem, she claimed the room was no longer available because it had been “knocked down.” She was rude and hung up on us. We contacted booking.com, but they couldn’t do anything. The employee cancelled our booking, and only moments later we saw the same room listed for double the amount. How is that fair? Shame on you. Now we’re left without a room for the Shepparton cup.

The food was lovely, but the evening was a bad experience and we wouldn’t recommend the place. We were packed in so tightly that our chairs backed onto the diners beside us and we couldn’t sit properly. Staff, except for one gentleman, were incredibly rude, complained repeatedly about being understaffed, and snapped at other patrons. We could hear it from two tables away. We had booked for New Year’s Eve and had asked when reserving whether the online menu would be available. We were told it would, but the menu was different and some dishes cost $10-$15 more than advertised. A surcharge only came up when it was time to pay. Both our drink orders were wrong. When we asked for the drinks we’d originally ordered, the waitress was unpleasant, and my cocktail was made incorrectly twice. As I explained the problem to another staff member, she came over, interrupted rudely, talked over us, and insisted that was how they made it there and that was what I’d get. When I later contacted the hotel, I was told it was our choice to stay despite the problems and nothing could be done. Very poor service and an unfortunate attitude toward guests.

What a fantastic weekend away. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. The customer service was great, and the staff were wonderful with my kid at check-in, helping him avoid a meltdown.

I booked this beautiful place for a mid-February luxury break to celebrate eight years of single life with the only man in my life, my son. Looking forward to relaxing there.
