Balonne River Motor Inn

It was really hot outside, so having water in the room was a welcome touch. The room was clean, comfortable and well looked after, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. I had a great stay and would recommend this motel to anyone wanting somewhere pleasant and comfortable.

I used to live in town, and it’s sad to see how things have changed. I called to ask about booking three nights, but only two were available. I understood that the 24th was booked, so I tried to reserve the 23rd and 25th instead. I called a few times and was told I’d get a call back, but more than 24 hours went by with no reply. When I called again, the phone rang once and then disconnected, almost as if my number had been blocked. The town isn’t usually so busy that you need to book weeks ahead. I get that Friday was full, but the way the calls were handled was very poor. I’d look elsewhere for more helpful service. I wish I could give minus five stars.

There was a decent amount of space, but the room felt average and tired, and it smelled of mothballs. The headboard was so awkward that sitting up in bed comfortably wasn’t really possible.

The room and meal together came to about $30 less than other places charged for just a room. I paid $20 for fish and chips room service, exactly what I needed, and it was quiet too. The bathroom may be “old” according to some reviews, but I’m there to use it, not buy it. It was spotless, the water was hot with good pressure, and the shower was the best I’ve had in years. The bed was comfortable, and the place was inexpensive. I’ve stayed elsewhere in town before, but I won’t now.
