The pool was my favorite part. I’ve been using it every day, and the water’s just right this time of year. It’s partly shaded by a canopy, which really helps on hot days, and it’s easy to spend hours there. Lilybank is set back from the road, so the rooms stay quiet, and they’re bright and roomy. There’s a big shared kitchen and living space, with plenty of fridge and storage room if you’re cooking. It worked especially well for a longer stay, with what you need close by. The bus stop for town is a two-minute walk, and Ubers are pretty cheap. The farmer’s market is about a 20-minute walk away. If you have time in Cairns, the red and yellow arrow trail is worth checking out, about a 40-minute walk from Lilybank. You can also walk through the Botanical gardens and join the trail. A great place to stay while visiting Cairns. I’ll be back after Sydney!

Felicity, the owner, was so lovely and helped us sort out a few things after we arrived. There’s a stand with information about local attractions, and the other guests were really helpful with suggestions too. The shared spaces are great, with a large kitchen, an indoor lounge with sofas, and an outdoor area beside the pool. Each bedroom also has its own private outdoor space. Our room and private en-suite were both spacious, clean, and tidy. Getting around was straightforward. There’s a bus stop about a minute down the road for the ride into Cairns City, which costs around $3. Ubers are easy to find too, and LilyBank is fairly close to the airport. After arriving in Cairns from the UK, this was such a beautiful place to stay. Highly recommend it.

The bed was comfortable, and the pool looked inviting, but it didn’t feel like a four-star stay. The decor could use an upgrade, and breakfast was very basic. We arrived late after our flight to find the windows and double door open, with the lights on. Insects were swarming around them, and a huge cockroach came into the living area. Not a great welcome. The bedroom lights were off, thankfully, but there were animal droppings on the dressing table. I can see a lot of potential here, though at the moment it fell short of a four-star experience.

Our flight landed at 06:00, so we contacted the hostess. She kindly let us check in early once the room was ready at 10:00, which was a big help. She was so kind and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh local fruit, homemade yogurt, and toast in any kind. The patio has a relaxing pool with an elephant fountain, and there’s a lovely tree frog named Gary. What a fantastic B&B!

Jeanette even arranged a taxi for us to the airport at 4:30am. She was flexible about check-in, and said we could leave our bags if we got there early, so we could walk around without carrying two large suitcases. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived, and payment was easy. We’d been holidaying in Port Douglas and stayed in Cairns for our last night because of a very early 6am flight. I called Lilybank Guest House at short notice, and Jeanette was friendly and helpful on the phone, making the booking hassle-free. The room was quaint and just right for an overnight stay. There was a folder with the WiFi password and details about available amenities, including towels, mozzie coils, bug spray, and pool facilities. It also had information on nearby shops and restaurants, with menus, plus bus timetables and directions. A very pleasant stay, and the house is beautiful and picturesque.
