I had to find another hotel and pay for an Uber to get there, and I’m still waiting 3-5 days for Booking.com to refund me. Travelling alone with a 25kg suitcase and hand luggage, this was very distressing. There’s no lift and two flights of stairs, so heavy bags are a real problem. The manager seemed to be the only person working both the bar and hotel, which also made the place look very short staffed. I arrived to check in at 1:40pm after being told check-in was at 1pm. My room wasn’t ready. I was taken there, shown the mess, given a key and told to go away for an hour. When I came back four hours later, it was still in the same state and no cleaner had been by. The manager said he didn’t know about me and could quickly clean it himself in “10 minutes.” I didn’t think a hotel room could be cleaned properly in that time, and he offered no other solution. A very upsetting experience.

The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the food was awesome. We came back to the Glasgow Arms after visiting a year earlier and were really impressed by the change. We tried the new Smokey Mary menu and it’s a must try in Sydney. It’s clearly turned around since the change of ownership, with a great location and cracking staff. Highly recommend.

Cornelius behind the bar and James on security really make you want to stay longer. They’re both great conversationalists and properly on the ball. The whole staff team manages to be professional while still easygoing, which makes for a really pleasant place to spend a few relaxed drinks on the weekend.

The Parma was good quality and a decent portion for the price, and check-in and checkout were easy. I left my ring in the room by accident, and the hotel was very helpful in explaining how I could get it back. The walls are paper thin, though. We could hear music into the early hours on a Saturday night, which I suppose was expected. Good spot for a quick overnight stay, and I’d recommend it.

Why was a staff member shouting to her friends in the bar for over 20 minutes on a Saturday night while a live performer was on? This was in February 2026.
