Atura Blacktown

The pool was clean and well monitored, which made it easier to relax with our two toddlers. Staff welcomed us warmly as soon as we arrived, and they’d already put a crib in our room. Breakfast had enough choices to please even my pickiest eater. Traveling with little kids can be a nightmare, but we’ve decided this will be our home base when we’re back in the area.

The efficient, friendly blonde receptionist was a real help, and I did enjoy the amenities when they were available. We had a spacious room over Christmas, but some of our family’s rooms felt cramped once the lounge was opened. The two reception staff were fantastic, though room service was unreliable: we requested cleaning just one night, but our bed wasn’t made, another room was cleaned twice despite requests, and towels, rubbish-bin changes, and basic cleaning were missed in other rooms. We were told the day before arrival that parties would run every night for four nights. Parts of the hotel were blocked off, and the noise went late. Since the restaurant opens next to the pool party area, a family dinner there wasn’t very enjoyable. Without a car, the location would be difficult. The pub next door closed by 8pm, so we drove to West point rather than rely on Uber for food. There were a few other small issues. It’s well located for drive-ins or Raging Waters.

The food didn’t feel worth the price, so I’d recommend driving elsewhere to eat. The room itself was clean, spacious for two, and had the basics, with a comfortable bed. At under $200 a night, Atura Blacktown makes a good staycation after a movie at Skyline cinema. Check-in and checkout are done at a machine, so service is minimal. That suited me for a night or two, as long as you’re happy with a no-frills stay and can manage on your own.

Sitting by the pool with a cocktail during happy hour while my son played with the other kids was the best part. The cocktails were amazing, and the service was spot on. Our room was bigger than I expected and had everything we needed. My son and I had a great time playing pool, chatting with other families, and sharing a barbecue chicken pizza. It was peaceful and a lovely break from the Sutherland Shire. I have three boys and can’t wait to return with the rest of them.
