We chose this place for a concert at the Enmore Theatre, and getting around was easy, with Central Station close by and trams and buses handy. Our twin room was clean, comfortable and just right for what we needed. The staff were friendly, and the hard-working breakfast team made for a good start to the day. Breakfast cost $18.00 for the full option or $10 for continental. One hiccup: we were given the wrong information about where Ubers pick up, so we missed our first ride and I had to pay a cancellation fee. We got there in the end. Parking is limited and tight to maneuver in, especially if you have a larger car. Luckily, we were able to swap our allocated spot because I couldn't have parked in the first one. I'd definitely stay again.

I stayed one night after a late engagement, and the Great Southern was a good fit for that. The room was compact, very clean and quiet despite being so central. The bed was comfortable, the blackout curtains worked well, and it was nice to have tea and coffee in the room. Central Station is exceptionally close, and the hotel offers good value. Breakfast is reasonably priced too. The full breakfast was generous, though the continental choices could use things like muesli, oats, fresh fruit or juice.

We had friendly, helpful service from everyone, and both the $18 full breakfast and the $25 steak and schooner were very good. Other menu items looked appealing and reasonably priced, and the beer was cold. The location is handy: the Haymarket light rail stop is right across the road, and within a 10-minute walk there are shops, cafes, restaurants, Central train station, paddys markets, Chinatown and Capitol Theatre. Our small room was clean and had what we needed for a short stay, but the bed was very hard and I thought the room cost too much. Because of the bed and price, I don't think we'd book again.

The room was beautifully renovated, with lots of character, and the price was so low. Great location, mostly quiet, and I'll definitely stay again. The only things that bothered me were the loud TV next door and stains in the shower tile grout. That seems like an easy fix with a deep clean now and then, so I wonder why it isn't a priority.

Our room was ready when we arrived early, so we could check in instead of just leaving our bags until the usual time. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room itself was clean and quiet with lovely furnishings. Great location and good value. Looking forward to staying at the Great Southern Hotel next time we're in Sydney.
