Jackaroo Hostel Sydney

The free breakfast was awful. The milk was warm most of the time, and the orange juice tasted sour. Bathrooms were dirty, with no paper towels anywhere. One had garbage bags around the urinals and smelled strongly of urine. There was no air conditioning, and without windows in the rooms I felt like I was sleeping in a vault. The atmosphere was okay, though a few people seemed miserable, and the staff were alright. I would never go back. Don't book this hostel.

The stairs made for a steep climb up to the dorm, and there are no elevators. The room was much too small, although the bathrooms were quite okay. Employees were very nice, and the bed was fine. As expected, some drunk people were partying in the streets, but at least breakfast was provided.

The hostel has plenty of shared space for everyone, and the facilities are fairly new, so there shouldn't be a bedbug risk. The rooms are small and most don't have windows. The AC usually works perfectly, but when I stayed, a leak damaged the system and we went three days without it. Being inside was unbearable, and the administration didn't make up for the problem. Cleanliness was average. Depending on the time of day, the toilets could be quite clean or a complete mess. Noise was never controlled by management, with the hostel full of British people drinking and losing control almost every day of the week. It's an average place to stay long term if you can put up with those issues.

I only stayed one night, but I'd recommend it. The neighborhood wasn't the cleanest, and it's in the King Cross area right beside the train station, with lots of places to party. The hostel itself was clean and well run, with awesome staff, free WiFi, and free cereal and toast for breakfast. A good place to party and still have a clean room.
