I hate saying this because the receptionists do try, but living here alone in a studio has been a nightmare. I’m paying 545 a week, and for four weeks I’ve had a small room with NO WIFI. I may as well have slept for free in the law library, which at least has Wi-Fi and air conditioning. I moved from the courtyard to a tower studio hoping for a better situation, but there was no Wi-Fi. I complained to Superloop and waited two weeks for a technician to be sent. Then the visit was delayed to the next week, and again to the week after. The receptionist said the technician had called and been approved to come to my room. Superloop then claimed the Village hadn’t given approval. Someone else at Superloop had earlier told me to stay in my room all day because the technician might come. What in tarnation is this Tom and Jerry lunacy? Before moving, my first studio’s ceiling was sagging. I complained, someone came, did nothing, and marked the issue as “resolved.” A few months later, a hole opened in the ceiling and a swarm of ants came through, getting into my belongings. Someone sent to “fix this” sprayed ant powder all over my things, so I had to throw away a bunch of valuables. They said someone would repair the hole, but no one came even after two entire terms. This place is full of deceit and, in any other country with decent residency laws, would realistically have been sued into closure. They don’t answer emails, give false reassurance, and do nothing about serious complaints.

After four years living in the Village, the last year was really bad. They inspect the accommodation every 3-4 months to check cleanliness. It used to be relaxed as long as things were tidy, but lately the RA has fined us $50 for small things like a paint stain that wasn’t our fault, a few drops of water, plates left on a table, or a mug tilted on a shelf. It became a huge headache in my final year of university, when I was busy with work, my thesis, and countless assignments. There were also repeated internet problems, water outages including hot water, and lifts out for days for maintenance. It’s been almost a month and I still haven’t received my security back. The reception RAs aren’t helpful and just give fake reassurance. I’d strongly suggest international students look for somewhere else.

I lived at UNSW Village for two years, and it’s definitely the best place to live on campus. The living environment is great, and the rent is competitively low. There are several apartment options, from premium studios to eight-bedroom apartments. It would be even better if the Village lowered the laundry costs.

The location is really handy, right on campus and near lots of restaurants and grocery stores. There are nice events every week, too. My room was clean when I moved in, and the bed looked new. Your roommates can really shape the experience, though. Mine were okay at first, but things aren’t so pleasant now. Some are good friends of mine, while others I can’t get along with because they’re always noisy. The walls are thin, so you hear noise from roommates. The room and location are very nice, but who you live with comes down to luck and affects your living conditions.

I’ve been here a week and it’s been good so far. The staff are great, and the student helpers on the RA team are excellent. I got lucky with a neat, friendly roommate, which makes things easier. The Village team puts on frequent events for students and foodies. They also give you a goodie bag at check-in. 5/5 XD
