L'Auberge Angara Bed and Breakfast

The rooms are awful, and the staff are rude. I’d rather sleep in my car than stay there again. Zoe was the rudest person I’ve ever met. The room colours and coverings made me gag, like a 12-year-old girl’s bedroom. They clearly have no taste. Avoid this place.

I paid a substantial deposit after being told it would be refundable. A few weeks before I cancelled because of Covid, I let Steve know, but the owner kept the money and won’t return it. That’s dishonest and unprofessional. I can’t recommend this business.

It’s an easy walk to Valentine Sports Centre, so it’s a handy place to stay for events there. The centre itself had more basic accommodation, with lots of young sports players staying there. There’s also a nearby stop for the express bus to Sydney. Local shops and restaurants take a longer walk to reach. Breakfast being included was convenient.

I work over 80 hours a week and was in Sydney for a week. Sorting out a fridge for my type 1 diabetes and moving me to another of the owner’s houses with availability went well at first. After that, there was no information about check-in or breakfast. At about 6:30 pm, nobody was there to help me check in. A male guest was leaving and held the glass front door open, so I went in. With someone standing at an open door, how was I meant to see a note stuck on it? I contacted the owner right away. Her first response was, “Don’t call me after 9pm,” even though it was only 6:30. I hadn’t been told by email, text or Airbnb inbox about breakfast or parking either. Breakfast was only served from 7 to 9, too late for me. There was cereal in the kitchen, but no milk was provided each morning. I washed my clothes elsewhere and put them on the house line Thursday morning before work. Later I was accused of leaving them there “for days.” I looked around inside and couldn’t find them. The owners said that evening they were in someone else’s room. On my last night, they left a parking map under my door saying I’d parked incorrectly. I left an honest, non-threatening Airbnb review without personal attacks. After it appeared, the owners emailed to thank us for their first bad review and said the check-in process was obvious and maybe I lacked common sense, along with other personal attacks. They didn’t want to discuss the miscommunication, instead writing that I had no personality and no communication skills. I travel a lot and could have given useful feedback and suggestions, but that nasty email was the last thing I expected from Cutmore Cottages. It saddens me that small business owners can be this nasty. I hope no one else gets such hateful emails just for being honest.
