We stayed at the Trident Apartments on Dennison St in Manly, and it was an absolute disgrace. I’ve travelled widely and stayed in plenty of apartments around the world. This place, and its rules, were the worst by far. As an Australian, I was ashamed to bring my UK family there. Disgusting. We’ll never return or recommend it. The receptionist was extremely rude when we checked in, and the rules they hand out are insulting. The apartment was way overpriced, with no complimentary tea or coffee on arrival and no hairdryer. There was no Wi-Fi, either. Come on, what century is this? The toilet exhaust fan stayed on all night and was noisy. Renovations began at 7:30am and carried on all day, making a huge racket, and nobody told us when we booked. So much for a quiet couple of days away. The lounges were uncomfortable. They also claim the right to charge $200 if someone accidentally locks their keys in the room. Thank God that didn’t happen to us. You have no right to treat people this way. Wake up, Australia. Bullshit will only get you so far!

We spent two nights at 3/38 Ashburner while showing friends around Sydney. The one saving grace was its location at the south end of Manly Beach. The place needs a serious makeover: both toilet seats were broken, the terrace door and mesh screen door were broken and hard to open, and broken shower tiles were hanging off the wall. The lounge had collapsed, the blinds wouldn’t open or close, and the lampshades were broken. The list could go on. It’s really tatty and feels damp. We won’t be back.

Worst holiday rental ever!!! We paid $500+ a night for a beach-view two-bedroom unit, but what we got was worse than a motel room. The view was nice, but the balcony was so dirty nobody wanted to go out on it. The door and both windows wouldn’t lock, the blinds were falling down, the carpet smelled, the bathroom taps were broken and the lights flickered. The tiny TV was so old we couldn’t connect our own media player. The kitchen still had food scraps from previous stays, and the sheets were stained. Worst of all were the bugs crawling everywhere in broad daylight, plus dead cockroaches on the carpet, inside the kitchen cupboards and in the shower. When we complained, we were ignored and sent away. This apartment shouldn’t even be rented out, let alone for $500+. Isn’t there some department we can complain to? I have photo proof...

The flat at 1 Darlcay is above a nightclub, and I got zero sleep. The three-bedroom flat came with only one key. I accidentally locked it in the room and was charged $200 for an after-hours callout just to borrow a spare. I’ll never stay in one of their apartments again, and I urge you not to either.

I’ve stayed several times in different units. The staff are friendly, and the units are clean and much better value than a hotel. Having your own place gives you privacy, and it’s handy to be able to use the kitchen.
