The biggest plus for my four nights in Unit B at Boutique Studio in Surry Hills was the location. Central Station Sydney is an easy walk, with cafés, a bar, Woolworths about four minutes away and a pharmacy nearby. I walked to Sydney Opera House in around 40 minutes. Given the studio’s size and location, the price seemed reasonable. Getting in and out was straightforward. The key location was easy to find and the lock simple to use, and the owner and staff replied quickly and politely with clear instructions. The room had a kitchen I didn’t use, plus a microwave, fridge, iron and washing machine, all working well. There were enough towels and some starter toilet paper. I would have liked slippers for comfort. The room’s comfort was let down by cleaning and noise. There was a noticeable stain on the pillowcase, stains and long hairs on the floor, and mould on the shower floor, which hadn’t been cleaned properly. Sound carried terribly between units. I could hear neighbours talking, using the bathroom or showering, and sometimes thought they were in my room. The window shield didn’t block the morning sun, making early mornings uncomfortable. I also saw a couple of cockroaches, so pest control may need a look, especially in warmer months. It’s a well-equipped studio in a very convenient spot, and the owner and staff were responsive and helpful. But the cleaning, thin soundproofing, window cover and occasional pests took away from the stay. It may suit a short visit if location and facilities matter most.
