Woolpack Hotel

The gaming room was where the poor service stood out most. Nobody asked whether we wanted drinks, and that’s a basic thing I’d expect at a pub. From the moment you walk in there’s no hello or acknowledgment, just staff with frowns who seem like they’d rather not be there. It made the whole place feel cold and uncomfortable. The lack of manners and attention ruined the visit, so I wouldn’t recommend it for friendly service.

I booked eight nights but had to leave at 2am on the first night because of bed bugs. Thankfully, I had family nearby; otherwise I don’t know where I would have slept. I asked for a refund the next morning and was told to contact booking.com, which I did. They then offered just $66 as a goodwill gesture, despite the $800 I paid for accommodation I never stayed in. Two weeks later, I’m still being passed between the hotel and booking.com trying to get my money back. A horrible experience.

The staff were lovely and always smiling, and we really enjoyed the meal. My wife and I shared the GAGS MEAT PLATTER at the Bistro, and it was just the right amount. I’d recommend it. Sorry, no photos.

Friday lunch at Woolpack was disappointing. I ordered the Surf and Turf, but this creamy, whitish sauce overwhelmed the whole plate, including the salad and chips. It was completely bland, and even a crunchy leaf tasted horrible. The chips were soggy and tasteless under all that sauce. As for the steak, I don’t even know what it was.
