Tamworth Budget Motel

The owner was so understanding when Brisbane floods meant we had to extend our stay a couple of times. She was lovely on the phone and did her best to help us. I was travelling with my two grandparents, and my grandmother isn’t very mobile, so I needed a room where she could easily use the shower and toilet. The owner made sure we had one that worked for her and invited us to ask if we needed anything. Great rooms and top notch customer service. A lovely little motel, highly recommended.

The beds had been made, but the rooms hadn’t been vacuumed and there were food scraps all over. The sink stopped working, so each time we used it the manager had to scoop the water into the toilet. We also had to take care of our rubbish ourselves. This wasn’t what I expected, and it ruined our family holiday.

The room was very good for the price, but an hour after checkout I got a call accusing me of smoking in it, even though I haven’t smoked for about 10 years. They also accused me of tampering with the smoke detector, which was attached to the ceiling with electrical tape before I ever opened the door. I can only think the accusations were an attempt to get extra money. It was a very unsettling experience, and I’d urge people to avoid the motel or take photos as soon as they enter.

We never even got to stay, and I won’t deal with this motel again. My stepfather and I had reserved a room until 10 p.m. for three nights while planning to sightsee in Tamworth. Around 6 p.m., when we were an hour away, we called to let them know. The person said they had tried to confirm because of cancellations due to Corona, but my father had his phone turned off and they only had that number. They had cancelled our room well before the reserve time and given it to someone else, and said they were fully booked. We didn’t even get an apology. Luckily it was the tourist offseason and we found another motel. The explanation seemed questionable: if there had been several cancellations, how had they booked up so quickly when other motels still had vacancies? I don’t recommend dealing with them.
