Tamworth Lodge Motel

We paid $260 for a cramped, dirty room, and cigarette smoke was coming in under the door. There were dead cockroaches, and the owner didn’t seem even slightly concerned. The owners were extremely rude and unhelpful. I couldn’t recommend this motel less.

We’d read worrying reviews on our way into Tamworth and expected the place to be terrible, but our overnight stay was great and very affordable for a queen room. Check-in was simple, and the room was clean, tidy and completely adequate. The bed was comfortable and warm, the TV reception was good, and the shower had plenty of pressure and warm water. The cleaning lady and owners were lovely, and they had a cute little dog.

The owner was lovely and helpful, and the rooms are a good size for a low price, in a quiet spot close to town. Those are the positives. At first our room looked tidy, but a closer look showed how much was missed. There was rubbish from a previous guest under the bed, dust and dirt in the window tracks, filthy window frames, and drawers and the bathroom sink cupboard that looked as if they’d never been cleaned. The bedroom window locks didn’t work, so the windows couldn’t be secured. The shower was dirty, with a filthy, slimy curtain, and the water swung between scalding hot and completely cold. The toilet brush was very dirty and rusty, full of feces, and smelled disgusting when used. There was dust and bugs in the ceiling joints too. I understand it’s a budget motel, but it really wasn’t clean. I understand the owner does the cleaning when rooms are vacant, but someone else needs to be hired to do it properly. If these issues were fixed, it could be a great little stay.

The room was filthy, with dust, dirty floors, a smelly bathroom and mould in the shower. We only stayed long enough to book another motel for the night.
