NRMA Toowoon Bay Holiday Park

We liked the location for the places we needed nearby, and the park itself was okay. The Beachcomber Oceanview cabin had a good, modern kitchen, but “Oceanview” felt like a stretch since the sea was visible only from one corner of the deck. The playground and pool were appreciated, though a regular swing would be a nice addition. The jumping pillow had an out of service sign for all four days of our stay, even though it rained for only 1.5 days. On our last morning I asked reception about it. The receptionist seemed unaware, called maintenance, and the maintenance guy said it was usable. It felt like nobody had bothered opening it each day. The listing promised Foxtel and wifi in the cabin. There was no wifi connection at all and just one Foxtel channel, which was really disappointing and not as advertised. The beds were average. Of the ten pillows, only one wasn’t stiff and too tall. Staff came across as sharp and angry in both interactions and weren’t welcoming. Smoking on balconies drifted into our eating area, and the beach path had eroded wood forming hurdles, so it wasn’t easy to access. We wouldn’t rush back to this cabin, which promised more than it delivered.

We love the spot and its closeness to the beach and other amenities, so we’ll be back. We come regularly for our yearly school holiday trip, but this stay left us underwhelmed in a few areas. We’re long standing NRMA members and weren’t told about the change. We paid in full after the changeover, but were then told we couldn’t use our discount. Maintenance has also slipped since our last visit. The amenities at the corner of 15th and 17th need urgent attention: doors don’t lock, soap dispensers don’t work, and hygiene seems poor. The cleaning sign off sheet suggests just one clean and a spot check, which doesn’t seem enough in peak season. I wonder if park staff visit to see how dirty things get between cleans. Bringing back the outdoor beach showers could help limit sand and dirt in the shower block. The powered site mats don’t appear to be replaced. Our site has had the same large, growing hole two years in a row, covered with a simple plastic vinyl square as a short term fix. The hot food stall by the jumping castle also needs a clean. Seeing the old oil cans build up is off putting, and the presentation needs work. There’s room for improvement under the large private chain now called NRMA.

We’ve been coming for holidays for the past three years and keep loving our stays. The park is well cared for, the cabins are maintained really well, and the staff are friendly. They’re also good about enforcing the rules when needed. The beach and local cafes are perfectly close, with plenty to keep both kids and adults entertained.

School holidays meant plenty of kids running around, but the park still had a great atmosphere. Bins were well placed, and the staff were friendly. We stayed on the Ensuite Site and were happy with the location and overall feel. I took off one star because this is the first ensuite site I’ve stayed at that didn’t provide towels. Apart from that, lovely.
