Canberra Rex Hotel and Serviced Apartments

We were visiting friends for one night and reached Canberra well before check-in. The staff kindly let us into our room early, which was a great help. It was spotless and well equipped, and the service impressed me, especially for such a reasonable price. Breakfast was a small buffet, but it had most of what you’d need and everything we tried was delicious.

The upstairs restaurant and bar have great views, and breakfast in the morning was a very good buffet. We stayed in the spa suite, which felt luxurious, with a comfortable king bed and a spa bath easily big enough for two. There’s a light rail stop right across the road. Two stops later you’re in Canberra’s main shopping area, with loads of dining options. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

We shared a twin room for five nights and had plenty of space to be comfortable. The staff were very helpful, and the location worked perfectly, with the light rail just outside and running every 15 minutes. If you book directly with the hotel, they offered us breakfast each morning as an incentive, and it was excellent. Canberra is beautiful, especially in autumn.

Breakfast was the biggest disappointment. It was included in our booking, but when we went down there was only dry toast and no condiments. Staff gave us a priced menu and asked what we wanted, but we didn’t want to order items that required extra payment when breakfast was meant to be included. We also paid for two bottles of water and received just one, and the Coke Zero we requested was regular Coke instead. There were good parts to the stay: the room was clean, comfortable and well maintained, and the room service meal was amazing, much better than expected. Staff were consistently friendly, professional and helpful. The building’s exterior made a poor first impression, with cobwebs covering the windows.
