We had brunch here and both ordered the steak and onion sandwich. Really good, and the coffee was too. The dining room is pleasant, with information across the walls and a big map showing how the roads wind around Tasmania's mountains. Plenty of room to park big rigs and caravans, and there's a dump point behind the cafe, which is a big plus. Lovely staff!
The ladies working there were friendly and knew a lot, so I'm glad we stopped. We found a table by the open fire, had a much-needed coffee made from fresh-ground beans, and enjoyed breakfast. My wrap was to die for, and the bacon and egg rolls everyone else ordered were excellent too. A welcoming stop on the way to Strahan.
The kids felt like we were staying in an old haunted place, tucked among the closed-up town shops. I wasn't too keen on it either. Maybe it works if you're out on a long hike or walk and there's no other option for a place to stay.
It's just a big room, with the shower and toilet in a separate space at the back. Inside, though, it has the basics you need, including a powerful heater, comfortable beds, and good hot and cold water. The outside doesn't look like much, since it's a converted shop. Getting there is easy, right off the highway, and the cafe next door provides a simple breakfast of toast or cereal.
The hamburger 🍔 from the takeaway is great. Really good food here.
