The gate shutting overnight is reassuring, since it helps keep people from being robbed. But the pool was so slimy I wouldn't get in. A friend stepped into the shallow end and slid all the way to the deep end while still standing. It seems the people running the place aren't clearing out the leaves so the automatic cleaner can do its job. Sad.

After three weeks travelling between Gosford and Mt Isa, we stopped at coolabah motel in Walgett for the night on our way home. It's a basic, budget motel, but it had what we needed for an overnight break: it was clean and modest, and the bed and pillows were the most comfortable I've ever had.

We were travelling with our caravan through awful weather, and flooding made the caravan parks too boggy, so finding this Motel was such a relief. We were grateful to get a room even though we had our two dogs with us. It was small, but the bed was comfy, the showers were hot, and we could make tea and coffee. The IGA is just around the corner for a quick dinner. The shower step up and down felt a bit dangerous, even with the hand rails provided.

For $130, you'd think they'd provide a few basics. I came back with dinner and there was no cutlery, so I had to go back to the takeaway place for utensils. Then at 5am, just as I was getting on the road, I put the kettle on for coffee and found no milk. A knife, forks and a little popper of milk wouldn't be much to ask. Next time I'll stay at the motel out the road.
