Redwood Manor Motel Apartments

I’d booked with Redwood Manor in early October 2024. The room seemed fine at first, but as the evening went on, all sorts of bugs, including moths, flies, gnats and fruit flies, kept bothering my partner and me in the lounge room. The bathroom seemed either open enough for bugs to get in or hadn’t been properly cleaned to remove their nests before we arrived. I called the service number to ask for a refund. They agreed over the phone, but a week later it still hadn’t come through. **Edit 16.10.24** I did eventually get the refund, though tracking it down and chasing the owner was unpleasant. I’d strongly suggest booking somewhere else. Spending a bit more would make your time in Warrnambool considerably nicer.

They cancelled my Booking.com reservation on 18/10/24 for this weekend, saying they were overbooked. I’d made the booking on 1/7/24, three months earlier. I can only guess someone else was prepared to pay more for the room. If that’s how you do business, good luck. It’ll catch up with you.

Good value for money and a very handy location. Check-in was contactless, with the keys left in a safe place, and no deposit was required when I arrived. The upper-floor rooms get good natural ventilation if you’re willing to wrestle with the windows. The showers have weak pressure, though we didn’t run out of hot water. Management was friendly and accommodating, and offered to store our luggage. Don’t be put off by the “closed” sign on the reception door. I never saw it open during my stay, but they answered both times I called.

BEWARE, Redwood Motel customer service is terrible. They cancelled my reservation and gave it to someone else who had booked more days, without asking my consent, even though I had paid. Under consumer law, I believe the first customer has priority regardless of how much they paid, unless the owner gets their consent. Redwood Motel made the decision on its own. What if we hadn’t checked our phone and had shown up to that surprise? Are we really in Australia to get this kind of service?
