Eyre Hotel Whyalla

Dinner was yum, and the atmosphere was great. The meals came out in good time, and the pokies room staff were on the ball with drinks and polite.

It’s otherwise a nice place to stay, which makes the bar staff’s rudeness to non locals disappointing. They make you feel unwelcome. I stood at the bar for a few minutes waiting to be served while the staff only engaged with patrons they knew. They came across as if serving me was an inconvenience.

The chicken schnitzels were dry, overcooked and flavourless. All five we ordered were like that, and I wouldn’t eat here again. We went for dinner tonight, and getting seated was hectic. The air conditioning was off in the restaurant, so it was stuffy and hot. After it was turned on, we were told where the table for our booking of nine was, but it only seated eight. They eventually found us another table, then we ordered.

We came for a birthday dinner from NSW after nine hours on the road, needing to refuel in every department. At 7:00 there was a queue for food, so we waited for it to die down. When I went to order at the bar at 7:15, they said, “sorry the kitchens closed because of too many people.” Looking around, it sounded like a joke. We then had to find somewhere pet friendly to eat before the town shut down, with our dog along. We would NEVER go back, and I’ll tell everyone about the experience. It’s a disgrace and not worth your money. Go elsewhere to avoid disappointment.
